Re: 50 Percent of Gamers are Women

January 19, 2019 Boonie Sripom
To see the games women played more often: https://quanticfoundry.com/2017/01/19/female-gamers-by-genre/

Statistics found here.

Disclaimer that of course not everyone thinks this way. Not everyone minimizes girls and women in the culture. There are still shared experiences where many women DO go through this challenge where they are not as accepted or feel like they are not allowed to explore “real gaming.” This is just a general response, and I am open to your perceptions and reading recommendations related to gender and video game culture and STEM.

Re: Minecraft Player Spends 4.5 Years Making a World

January 19, 2019 Boonie Sripom
I read comments on viral videos to get a feel for how the general public views groups of people, especially gamers and creatives. I made this video to share my perspective and appreciation for someone who is as committed and focused to do something like this.

I will write a blog post about this later. For now, please listen to some thoughts related to sharing perspective on Video Games & Failure to Launch, some book recommendations, and ways to help your gamer identify and use skills in games to real life.

Book Recommendations:

  • Reality is Broken by Jane McGonigal
  • Super Better by Jane McGonigal

Things to Consider:

  • Thinking about the reasons for why someone would play...
  • Has it always been this way? If not, what changed?
  • How are games being used by the gamer?
  • Is it ann escape, or a way to develop some skills?
  • What kinds of skills is this gamer learning from the game?
  • Is it a social game where connection is being offered?
  • Is it a way to test reality to channel energy or try on a different hat?
  • How can we identify the positive and negative skills or coping strategies used in games?

Thoughts on Video Games: Being Childlike, Play, & Children

March 20, 2017 Boonie Sripom
Some thoughts I have at times on how society sees children, how it's okay to hit, and yet at 18 it's not allowed any more. Some attributes we pair with children and play, are associated with stigmas to play video games. It's confusing and intriguing at the same time.

Thoughts on Video Games: Play & Compassion

Play is the natural language of children. Connecting can help us develop a vocabulary to better understand those whose worlds are so very real when playing.

Thoughts on Video Games: Taking Games Away & Loss

March 6, 2017 Boonie Sripom
Games can provide wonderful benefits to our lives. Taking them away without alternative options, or dialogues about what it's like can lead to resentment and difficult times. Some words to share perspective of what it could be like to lose something so important. *I understand excessive gaming can be detrimental to relationships and personal lives.

Thoughts on Video Games: Embarrassment for Being Different

February 13, 2017 Boonie Sripom
Last week I did't make a video on video games because I was embarrassed! It happens. Some thoughts and questions on embarrassment for being different, and arbitrary age limitations for playing games. Thoughts on Video Games: Dying a Lot, Asking for Help, IRL Stuff

January 30, 2017 Boonie Sripom
Do gamers see life as a game? Does this mean actions don't have consequences? Let's discuss. How and when can we apply skills used to overcome challenges in games to IRL?
